Alan B. Scott, MD

Alan B. Scott, MD

Alan B. Scott, founding member and former director (1982-2004) of the Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute, has practiced adult and pediatric ophthalmology for more than 50 years and is best known for his groundbreaking work in developing and manufacturing botulinum toxin type A for strabismus. More recently, he has been working with bupivacaine to strengthen extraocular muscles.  

Dr. Scott founded the Strabismus Research Foundation in 2013, where he continues to work as a senior scientist. He has published dozens of articles and papers, and is the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including the Linksz Medal (International Strabismus Association), the Proctor Medal (Association for Vision and Research in Ophthalmology), the Parks Silver Medal (American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus), the Lifetime Achievement Award (International Toxin Association), and the Senior Award (American Academy of Ophthalmology).  We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Scott will be awarded the 2019 Lucien Howe Medal at our meeting in June!
